Starting Small and working your way back

Whether you are attempting to start trying out a new habit, work towards a goal or have more time for yourself- the tried and true method......

Start Small

You may have lofty goals, that may seem daunting, but by starting small and taking those small actions every day - You can begin to create BIG changes with those small steps. 

So many times I have tried committing to something large (paying off Debt all at once, starting an intense training regimen, reading a whole book in one month ect) and rather than taking small steps to get there - I try to get everything all on at once.... then I tire myself out and end up not completing the intention I set, the cycle of beating myself up, trying again and often failing appears and boom I am at the same place again.. Does this sound familiar? 

So looking towards the future of your intentions or goals - How can you intentionally do this?

Perhaps it doing something for one minute a day - or  paying back debt 10$ a week, or reading 1 page per day. Start small and allow the momentum of that success to begin to expand to more and more.

Start small so you have room to expand and grow rather than the reverse. 

Another way to approach this is the looking backwards method. 

Try at home:

Step 1. Write down what you want to achieve and by when 

Step. 2 Break down what it will take to achieve that goal

Step 3.  Put time amounts on each of those steps  (allotting more time than you think)

Step 4. After scheduling these things - take an honest look at if its reasonable (the timeline, resources it will take, the time, energy it will take, ect.)

Step 5. Adjust (perhaps lengthening the amount of time things will take - extending or shortening your timeline)

Step 6. Scheduling in weekly/daily towards your goal!

And repeat!

No need to beat yourself up if things weren't done by the time you wanted 

keep coming back to those small actions day by day/week by week and celebrate the successes along the way!
